Are You REALLY Prepared for the Snow Storm? Do You Have These 18 Items?

Just when we thought the weather might break, we look to the radar to find another huge snow storm coming.  The national weather service is calling for 1 to 2 inches tonight and another 2 to 4 inches tomorrow in the Cove.  By nature, we all run out to the store to buy bread, milk, eggs, and a few other items but do we really have what we need?  Here is a Snow Storm Safety Checklist:

  1. Water, at least a 3 day supply, one gallon per person per day
  2. Food, at least a 3 day supply of non perishable, easy to prepare food
  3. Flashlight
  4. Battery powered radio
  5. Extra batteries
  6. First aid kit
  7. Medications, 7 day supply including hearing aids with extra batteries, glasses, contact lenses, syringes, cane
  8. Multi-purpose tool
  9. Sanitation (toilet paper) and personal hygiene items
  10. Cell phone with chargers
  11. Family emergency contact information
  12. Extra cash
  13. Baby supplies, bottles, formula, baby food, diapers
  14. Pet supplies, collar, leash, ID, food, carrier, bowl
  15. Tools, supplies for securing your home
  16. Sand, rock salt or non-clumping kitty litter to make walkways and steps less slippery
  17. Warm coats, gloves, mittens, hats, boots, blankets and warm clothes
  18. Alternate heating methods such as fireplaces, wood or coal burning stoves
